This 38-page Wicked ELA Study invites students to explore the story, characters, and poetry of one of Broadway’s most iconic musicals—and its new movie adaptation. Students examine themes of identity, power, and friendship while analyzing the poetic language of Stephen Schwartz’s lyrics and the story’s evolving interpretations across page, stage, and screen.

This guide focuses on the Broadway musical and subsequent movies, but occasionally references the book Wicked by Gregory Maguire and The Wizard of Oz by L. Frank Baum; familiarity with those texts is not required to use this resources!
